As I am Doctor, I am very much happy to hear the news. Because I have seen lots of suffers in our medical college who have been suffering from various kinds of disease like Aplastic anemia, Leukemia who need emergency bone marrow transplantation.

First Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in Bangladesh

First Bone Marrow Transplant is in Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in Bangladesh. So we can now give the better treatment to blood cancers, Thalassemia and related diseases. Our Health minister AFM Ruhul Hoque opened the country’s first bone marrow transplantation plan in inauguration program. The Unit is located in Dhaka Medical Hospital -2, 10^th Floor.

Inaugural ceremony arranged by the Health Minister’s Conference Dr. Ruhul Amin said, the long-term dream, planning and preparation of bone marrow transplantation unit has been set up. Hospital physicians, specialist physicians, and administration’s hard labor and true wish made this possible.

Health and Family Welfare Secretary MM Niyaj Uddin, the special guest of the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Health and Family Welfare and Social Welfare Professor Syed Modasser Ali was present there. Dr. Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin MP, Director General of Health Services Dr Khandakar M Sifayet Ullah, bone marrow transplant expert Dr Bimalangshu Dey, Principal of DMC Prof. Deen Mohammad and Director of DMCH Brigadier General Mustafizur Rahman, Head of Haematology department Dr MA Khan and Project Director Dr Baijid Khurshid Reaz also spoke on the occasion.

This Bone marrow transplantation unit is highly efficient with latest technology. All the physicians, nurses, pharmacologists have been trained in United States, Thailand, Singapore for this special unit. Massachusetts General Hospital in establishing the unit training and technical assistance has been received.
