History of Prize Bond in Bangladesh:
Directorate Of National Savings (DNS) was formed under the provision of Public Debt Act. 1944 when Bangladesh was under British rule . But functions of savings were in existence long before only in the form of Postal Ordinary Savings Bank (POBS) which dates back to 1880. After the birth of independent Bangladesh in 1971, the Martial Law Committee on Organizational Set Up in there report (Chapter 111 july 1982) formalized the National Savings Directorate. Primary objective’s of the NSD were only to motivate the people for investment in different saving instrument . But during the period of 1980’s , Government thought of assigning operative function’s to the NSD under a pilot project 7 special bureaus were created, five of which wearing capital Dhaka city , 1 was at Chittagong and other was at Narayangonj. There after during the period of 1980 to 1989, all distract level Saving’s Offices were also brought under operative functions.
